I have a 1982 Opel Monza that hasn't been started for over 3 years. What are the rules for start her up safely

I am wondering whether to sell the car because of the running costs..any advice would be welcome.|||Assuming that you have oil, fuel, and water in sufficient quantities, and the battery`s sound, remove the spark plugs, tie the leads together after noting where they go and keep them out of the way. Turn the engine over on the starter and make sure that the oil pressure light goes out. If it doesn`t, find out why, if you can. If it does go out, replace the plugs, and try to start it. Do it outside, not in a closed garage|||Beautiful car. There are a lot of enthusiasts out there looking for a good example.|||check the oil|||You may also want to remove the spark plugs and put a little oil into the cylinders. With 3 years since it being started, there is likely no oil at the top.|||The Opel Monza is and was a cracking car. If you can save it , keep it and enjoy it. If it has been stood for any length of time it will be rusty, dont kid yourself it wont be.

The engines are bulletproof and do take a lot of abuse and neglect but unfortunately the bodys are prone to rot very badly.

The best advise to any Opel Monza owner is join the autobahnstormers. For a 拢20 annual subscription you with save litterally hundreds of 拢拢拢拢拢拢拢 a year in knowledge, parts (old and new) and meet other enthusiasts, even if your not technically minded. the forum which is only open to paid members is a invaluable sourse of information which you can not afford to miss out on.

Regards NS www.autobahnstormers.co.uk (1985 Monza GSE 24v)|||fresh oil, gas and battery. if you haven't needed it in 3 years, yes you should sell it. it worth a lot more running :)|||Take the plugs out and put some oil down the cylinders.. leave it for a couple of hours then turn the engine over until oil pressure is showing; no more than about 30 secs though.. refit the plugs and try a start.|||Remove rocker cover and plugs

Liberally cover cam shaft with oil

Pour egg cup of oil into each cyl.

Jack up one wheel -put in gear- turn road wheel by hand thereby turning engine over

Bit of a bore but keep going for couple of mins -this will stir oil in gearbox and diff as well as engine

put rocker cover back on,don't worry at this point about gasket,it won't leak much if at all.

Put clean plugs in.

Start up!!!!

Running costs are a bit naughty on a Monza, but if you really want to sell I am only one of many who will be interested|||Change the oil and filter.. Drain any and all old fuel out and put in new fuel... Charge battery up and put a good battery in it... Buy a new set of spark plugs for it.. Take old spark plugs out, squirt alittle bit of Marvel oil into the plug holes.. Turn engine over a few times... Put new plugs in and fire her up.
