Does the saturn sky and pontiac solictise handle like the new opel GT and what is the boot capacity in litres?

i know saturn is an amrican crap copy of opel and the pontiac is a copy of the opel with a slightly different design|||Saturn Sky and opel GT are almost exactly the same down to the trim. Pontiac Soltice and Soltice with the turbocharged motor. There are companys putting in the 6.0 liter LS-2 motor and Transmission. Do not buy this car if you want any BOOT CAPACITY! about 3 rugby or foot balls can be squeezed in the boot. And they are all the same UK built car.|||They do handle the same. They have the same chassis and about the same weight. I am not sure about the size of the boot in litres, but I kno you can fit 1 big suitcase.

Why was the Vauxhall brand dropped in Ireland and replaced by Opel?

The answer you're looking for is that Vauxhall are seen as a British/English car and due to previous 'differences of opinion' with the British some people in Ireland wanted no association with them however small.

Opel is seen as a European or German brand rather than British hence the re-badging excercise.

Sounds far fetched I know but it's absolutely true.|||Vauxhall was an independent manufacturer, named after the area of the same name in London in 1857 where they first set up before moving production to Luton in Bedfordshire in 1905.

In 1925, the company was purchased by GM of America to give it a foothold in the UK and ultimately Europe in order to compete with Ford.

Opel was GMs German subsidiary and in the early 80s they directed an "Opelisation" of the Vauxhall brand which saw many models simply copied or imported. This was to save costs of development. This was also replicated with the Holden brand in Australia and New Zealand.

The Vauxhall brand was dropped in Ireland (Eire) in 1982 and other countries such as Cyprus, Malta and New Zealand later in the same decade.

It is generally accepted that the brand is too strong in the UK for GM to get rid of it in favour of Opel though the different model names were gradually dropped in favour of mainly Opel model names e.g. Vectra replaced Cavalier with the exception of Astra which replaced the Opel Kadett.

so i would guess that Vauxhall werent doing as well in ireland thus they had the oppertunity to drop the name and go with the main brand Opel|||Vauxhall is an area of South London. The men at the gas works got bored and started building cars in their spare time. The company became a major British car manufacturer and they also sold cars in Ireland.

GM took them over in the 1920s and they were eventually merged with Opel, GM's European arm. The cars continued to be marketed as Vauxhall in the UK - even though they were rebadged Opels. In Ireland, there was no point or commercial benefit to be gained by rebadging the cars with the name of a defunct English marque.

Does Opel Vectra have a remote control for music?

Just wondering if a remote control is included. (to operate it's own music player not 3rd party players)

Where to support my Vauxhall/Opel Combo?

I need to work under my Combo to remove the sump. Do I put the axle stand anywhere along the axle or shall I place it elsewhere? Is the area next to the jacking point a strong point as well or is it just the jacking point itself?

Cheers.|||If you need to ask this question, it doesn't sound as though you are competent enough to be undertaking the task with any degree of safety.

Get a professional to do it!|||Only the jacking points, and I wouldn't rely on them too much either. Put the stands under the front suspension where they cannot slip off. Good for you to realise the need for stands etc.

Why there is no opel cars in the USA?

i know its a graet car,but why theres non?|||It's a marketting thing, why don;t we have Singer, Hillman, Morris, Humber, Austin, Riley .....

Many of the GM cars on sale accross the world have their development done in one or more country. The reason that Opel, Vauxhall, Holden etc are not sold in the US is the same reason GM do not market Saturn, Geo, Pontiac, Buick in the UK.

Many models are based on standards based chassis components etc. lookup the GM Epsilon platform for interest.

Some cross over models do exist, the US Chevrolet Cavalier is related to the Opel Ascona as such.

The Saturn range are to some degree based on the Vectra and Saab ranges.

To create a new market for a brand may only compete with existing models, there is also the notion that different countries have different desires/needs/wants.

I'm sure there are a few grey imports however.....|||there are a few here and there. GM doesnt see a market here int he US for them.|||because the us has the cadillace catera the replica of the opel ?|||Because they are a piece of crap car!!!!!|||GM has attempted to introduce Opel cars to the American auto market several times, but they have never been able to develop a profitable market for the German brand cars here in the USA.|||I had two Opels. Could GM turn Opel ,Holden, vauxhall and saturn into a independant company, and sell it?

Seems to me this is the only way they could get enough money to avoid bankruptancy|||They won't do that because Saturns are not sold in EUROPE!! Opel is in Europe and lots of people buy their cars. Vauxhall is not a big difference because all they do is just transform the look a bit. I say Let the cars be just the way they are.|||Not easily and why? GM shares platforms between their divisions so its likely they would end up giving away things they want like their new RWD platform, small block V8s, and some pretty nice FWD cars and V6 engines.

If GM sold Opel and Vauxhall what would they have in Europe? Same goes for Holden in Australia. Saturn shares lots of stuff with Opel. GM is also profitable outside the US where they dont have to deal with the UAW.

Can you put Sparco Racing seats into a 1970 Opel GT?

The designation of the bearing fitted at the rear axle after differential in a Opel Ascona B 1977,1.6?

Does anyone knows which is the bearing that is fitted at the rear axle between the differential and the wheel, from the side of the differential, of a Opel Ascona B 1977, 1.6 litre?

It must be ball bearing deep groove with number 531458, but I am not sure. It is also fitted together with a gasket in order not to have a leakage of differential lubricant.|||Nobody wants to touch this????

Sir, It is simply your wheel bearing if it is located near the wheel.

If you have your differential cover off and it is near the little gear on the right or left of the Ring Gear(the biggest one) it is called the Spider Gear and hence the Spider Gear bearing.

When discussing Gasket I suspect it to be the "Wheel Bearing" near the wheel. This requires removing the axle and a puller to remove the bearing from the axle tube. Dirty, never goes right, pain in the **** procedure requiring possible heat application or very carefull cutting of metal. Damage to the axle tube is NOT allowed. Seek help/a good shop to do these.

Some of them are pressed onto the axle and can really only be removed and installed by a machine shop with 20-40 ton presses! Don't even mess with them just take the axle in to them.

Sounds like you can see the bearing so I think I got the bases covered here.

Good Luck

they are cars that look the same but have the same body and styling|||i have to say andy is spot on here in australia they also have holden name|||Hi, In the UK, all cars of this type (Corsa, Astra, Vectra, Insignia etc.) are badged as Vauxhall.

In the EEC (Including Southern Ireland) they are badged as Opel, but they could be manufactured in virtually any country that GM has a factory, thus you have Vectras (UK Specification) made in Germany by Opel, and Australian Holdens all badged up as Vauxhall!

A quick clue is to look under the bonnet at the identity plate, this will usually give the manufacturer and country of origin.

Hope this helps.|||Hello

What are some small cars like triumph opel datsun mg fiat but quality cars?

classic cars pre 1977|||An interesting question.

A different way to look at this --%26gt; ANY small sports car that is pre '77 that is still in good shape and running good is a quality car. All the break downs, early mortality and other crap have been weeded out. Survival of the fittest!

Keeping with the 4-cyl theme:

Back then, you would want to look at the Mercedes SL two seater for a quality car though some have an I6. In the late 60's it would be the 230. 250 %26amp; 280. In the '70s it would be the 280, 350 and 450.

Alpha Romero was also known for quality. Being Italian, some would dispute that.

Other than than, you're getting into V-8s and exotics...

Hope this helps.|||I am sorry, but there were not any.

The British, French, and German cars were all temperamental and needed constant attention to keep them on the road.

WHY Opel is not on American market ?

Opel is a good make of German cars .WHY Opel is not on American market ?|||Opel makes some great vehicles. They are also owned by General Motors. General motors uses some Opel platforms in some of their U.S. products. Mostly they use this in their American product "Saturn". The Opel "GT" coupe and "Vectra" sedan are offered in the U.S. as "Saturn" products (Sky and Aura). So they are in the U.S. in a way. Although I can't say if the "GT and "Vectra" were a U.S. "Sky" and "Aura" first or if the reverse is true. Kind of a Chicken and the Egg thing... I doubt G.M. bothers with many of the other Opel products in the U.S. market because the other Opel vehicles look pretty small for U.S. customers. That's probably why you don't see their other products over here.|||None of the Opel vehicles are offered to Americans. They re-design them as either the Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky.|||It is so expensive to build cars in Germany that it would not be possible to sell an Opel at a low enough price to compete with the other lower priced cars on the American market. GM sold Opel's here in the past, they gave up due to low profits.

I wouldn't be surprised if GM started selling cars here that have the Opel trademark on them, but are not from Germany.|||Almost every current or upcoming Saturn is based on an Opel - so they kind of are. The Sky, the Aura, the new car that's replacing the Ion (can't remember the name) - all Opel based.

To the other answerer - Daewoos haven't been sold here in years - they went belly up.|||Maybe they figure since there is already such a massive amount of cars available to the American market that they wouldn't really stand a chance against the already well known brands. Take a look at Daewoo, they are available to us, but nobody, well, hardly anybody I should say cuz I've seen one or two. But point being is that just because they're available doesn't mean that they are going to do well. Maybe they figure rather than take the risk just stick with what you've already got.

Consumption figures tend to be over-exagerrated, plus the car is almost 10 years old, so expect a figure @ 10-15% below that. In other words, @ 35mpg as a combined figure, should be expected.|||Depends on how and where it's driven. There's no "it'll do "X" mpg" answer.

What's the cause of damp in the boot of my Opel/Vauxhall Corsa?

It's been happening a while. The surface of the boot is damp. When i remove the cover and examine the underneath (where the spare tyre is) it's even wetter. I dry it all out and replace the cover but then a few days later the same problem. The fact that it's wetter underneath suggests the source of the water is from underneath and it soaks through the cover. Yet where is it coming from? It seems almost like condensation than anything else. Any help would be hugely appreciated. No money to take to garage.|||it's probably condensation.it could have a hole that a wet road might blow water thru. try puting some heater hose underneath the spare.in theory thus letting more air in the area underneath the spare.|||To state the obvious .... Water.

You could always try filling your boot with Silica gel. Seems to work on a small scale in Shoe-boxes.|||it is either being forced through a hole underneath or more likely through a broken boot seal.

Check the base of the boot for any small holes, that might normally have a rubber gromit in them to seal them.|||war,

There are rubber seals that surround the openings for the tail lights as well...if they are hard/cracked/corroded, that's a possible opening where water may be entering the space.|||its not likely to be coming from underneath, as water flows downwards, so its probably coming from a leaking boot seal.

Why does the UK have Vauxhall and rest have Opel?

Hi I live in Britain and in the UK we have Vauxhall but the rest of Europe when I go on holiday ive been to Greece, Spain, Cyprus and France and they all seem to have Opel why is that?|||The Vauxhall and Opel brand names belong to General Motors. Vauxhall was originally a British company. Opel was European, so GM have stuck with the familiar names in their former home countries.|||As others have said General Motors took over both companies Vauxhall in 1925 and Opel between 1929 and 1931 (they were part owners for a while). Although both were part of GM they kept a lot of their own design expertise (and so the cars were quite different) and their own markets until the seventies or so, Then the ranges were gradually amalgamated, the opel designs tended to win out as they were much more suited to european use, whereas many Vauxhalls were more transatlantic and whilst this was ok in the fifties tastes changed. Its worth mentioning that the Vauxhall reputation was badly damaged in the 60's as they rusted very badly, 3 year old cars often having holes in the body. Many factories closed (Luton, main base of Vauxhall being a really big casualty). For a while Opel did sell models which did not compete with Vauxhall in the UK- the Opel Manta was probably the best example as it competed with the Ford Capri and Vauxhall did not have a car like this in their range. Their various cars are now made in various factories around Europe. They still have a plant in UK at Ellesmere Port, which as far as I can tell, makes Astras both for UK and export.|||Vauxhall was a UK motor company

And for a while in the 80's they rebranded most if not all Vauxall cars Opel.

eg the then new Vauxhall Nova became the Opel Corsa within a few years,

the name it had always had on the continent of Europe.

Clearly someone in marketing has decided that using the old British name might fool some into thinking it is a more 'local'/less European car !

perhaps (cynically) an argument to price it differently (*) is the underlying reason.

(*) the EU demands that all products have the same price throughout the EU.

The automatic chock was very rusted and started leaking water, so I bypassed It. The car still goes good but It battles to start. I tried to adjust the Idle screw, It starts a bit better now but I'm worried that if I adjust it to much the car might use more fuel.|||There must be some versions of that carb which had a manual choke provision or means of fitting one. Fiddling with the carb settings isn't going to be sufficient, it needs some method of choking for a cold start. The carb settings should be those necessary when it is warmed up.

If push comes to shove I'd imagine a good engineer could make you up some form of "strangler" for it.|||Hi

tou will need the manifold as well but it is a better carb, and although it is a stage 1 it will start easier and strange as the rest of the stage 1 has not been done it will give more mpg.|||The choke was there to make it easy to start when cold. You can find other choke actuators that will fit the housing, rotate the right direction that are electric heated. If you installed one of these no more water leaks and it would start easier. The problem is finding some one in a parts store who will help you locate the right one to work and then finding a hot lead to use to heat it. Even an old non heated one would be better then none or a kit to manually open and close it.

How to install Sony mp3 player (CDX-GT200) to Opel Astra G with factory-inbuilt Phillips cassette player?

Like any car that hasn't got radio or cd player built into the dash, the radio should easily be removed. Look for holes in the side of your existing radio,(Blaupunkt, Philips, some Sonys). Try inserting something into these holes, one side at a time and see if the radio pulls out. Once this is done, you can disconnect the aerial and power supply. Along with the power supply you will have speaker, ground or earth and some other wires that might include, memory or backup and remote. Some of these might not actually be wired up. The power supply wire is red, ground or earth wire, black. the ground could also be attached to radio casing seperatly with a small bolt. Speakers are wired up with two wires, a positive and a negative. If there 4 speakers, hence 8 wires. Once all is disconnected, try the fitting into the new stereo. If this doesn't work, you can purchase a 'Loom' which connects to the back of the new stereo and the fitting from the old one. If you don't want to go this way you can cut the old wires and connect them once you have spares coming from the new one. GOOD LUCK.

If Gm were to rid themselves of the Opel, Vauxhall, Holden and Saturn brands how much money would they save?

GM essentially stopped making the Saturn a couple of years ago and closed the Spring Hill, Tennessee factory. What they sell now under the Saturn nameplate is the Opel (which by the way is essentially the same as the Vauxhall) or, in the case of their large SUV, a Chevy. Holden has managed to remain a bit more independent but you can buy one of their cars under the Pontiac name. So they've already saved money by consolidating. Thanks in advance|||You need to enter the correct code for the stereo, if you don't have it then take the car to your nearest Vauxhall dealer who will be able to help you out. There's nothing wrong with the connections as you are reading an error message. This is a security feature design to deter would be thieves. The Word panel is displayed either because you have the wrong panel fitted to the stereo or its not fitted correctly. Push the button with the flashing red light on the lower right of the radio to remove the key pad and reinsert the panel.

I have come across car dealers mixing up the panels these are coded to the Stereo itself if yours is incorrect you can purchase a coded replacement Panel from vauxhall or get a complete radio and panel from a breakers yard.

Most Vauxhalls (I have a Vectra) When new were supplied with a handbook that covers the standard ones. R100, CAR200,300, 400, CCR600, 800 and CDR500. Admittedly mine is a 1997 but none of these have removable front panels. They are all coded radios. As far as I know any radio fitted after that will also be the newer coded type.

So this may be a owner fitted one, Having removed the 4 screws they will reveal 4 holes, The removing tool (available from Halfords) is 2 U shaped pieces of wire like coat hanger wire. Normal ones will fit 1 each side (Top and Bottom) holes and pushing in the holes releases the whole radio.

Yours is saying "Panel" This normally means you have a radio with a removable Front Panel. (Older ones used to have part of the Panel removable, Newer ones you remove the whols Front Panel but these tend to have the 4 screws behind the Front Panel. This was a security feature as the radio is coded to Front Panel supplied only. The request for Panel means it has not made contact properly with the Panel. If you do not have the hand book for the radio try Goggling the Make and Model. Should be a small button to press to release. If so clean electrical contacts and refit. You do not have to enter a code when refitted.

As it reads "Panel" this means the rear electrical contacts are OK as it is displaying a message.

Hope this helps

In opel corsa the engine temputure is more comparately other motors, What is the remedy to reduce the heat?

Different car have different thermostat opening temperatures. It Varies from approx. 82 degree Centigrade to 92 degree centigrade ...... Now Opel has a high opening temperature of its thermostat. It also has 2 speed Fan which operates at a lower speed when the temperature is below 95degree( approx) and at a very high speed when the temperature exceeds that. Its perfectly safe if the engine is running fine and the coolant is not gushing out of the radiator/reservoir. Thermal effeciency increases with rise in temperature. hence higher the temperature higher the effeciency ( theoretically) . In case you want your engine to run cooler you will need to get the thermal switch of the FAN to be changed for a lower temperature and also the Thermostat valve. As I said earleir if the temperature guage does not show high/hot then you are doing fine and need not worry|||you have not mentioned the year.

Why is Opel signum so cheap? Are they good cars overall?

I love the Opel Signum design, i think they look really nice. If i saw it on road and didnt the prices of it, i would think they cost more than 20 thousand euros but you can find good ones costing 7000 or 8000 euros.

Why are they so cheap? Are they good cars? I am thinking of buying one.|||Dreadful car, all the reliability issues of the nasty Vectra, but without all the versatility of the size of it. If you buy one, it's your funeral, that and your savings. Buy a Skoda Octavia instead. Far better car, and will keep going, and be worth more in 5 years than the Signum in 2 years. Avoid.|||ok...

like it or not however..

The Signum is a variant of the Vectra with a longer wheelbase and an estate type back but shorter than the estate.

Only has two seats in the back (but may have a third seat which a child could use...)

The car is cheap for a few reasons...many were sold as fleet cars to sales reps so they have been a long way.

They also were not a popular buy and have depreciated worse than a similar spec Vectra.

The new Insignia has also caused prices to drop as it is not as expensive new as the Signum was.

If you would be happy with a Vectra and don;t mind the backseat issue it is a good bargain.

Would Opel Vectra headlights fit a Vauxhall Vectra manufactured the same year?

Probably yes but make sure they dip the correct way for your car, i.e. right or left hand drive|||Yes. However as one of the other answerers has already said, make sure they are for a right-hand-drive car (e.g. an Ireland-market Opel Vectra), not a left-hand drive car (e.g. a German-market Opel Vectra), so that they dip to the left.

How much would it cost to rebuild a 1976 Opel Manta?

Mine isnt too bad, but has moldy interior, and bad window seals, but i would like a guestimate from scratch|||Depends on the standard you want at the end.

My 1979 Manta cost around GBP 12,000 to restore a couple of years ago but would have cost about twice as much if I'd had to pay someone to do the bodywork. Just getting it back to an everyday driver might have cost GBP 2000-3000, though.

You'll have to be prepared to look for parts in Germany if you want to use new parts, used parts can probably be picked up through clubs or eBay.

Either way you do it, do it for the love of the car rather than to make money, Manta values aren't high enough yet for that.|||Hi with such an old beast it might be just too much to ask actually, scrap yards are the best bet but some do have on line sites which may make it easier.

Can you believe FIAT, probably Europe's weakest car company, is taking over OPEL and joining a US giant?

FIAT already make engines for Vauxhall Opel in Europe, and FIAT engines are fitted to SAAB cars, which are built alongside Cadillacs in Europe.

Ferrari may have a sporting heritage, but they've always been terribly built %26amp; seriously unreliable - ask any owner. Ferrari aren't a profit making arm of the company, the name is just a prestige brand held together by a corrupt F1 system.

FIAT have maintained their position as a car maker in the same was as a lot of other makers of crap cars have: Italians buy FIATs, it's as simple as that, the same as US consumers buying US goods regardless of how good, bad or ugly they are.

Why, do you think, was the Mercury Capri so much more successful than the Opel Manta?

Pure and simple, i'm from Australia where as holden has carried on the Opels and marketed them out here Astra's Vectra's and Barina's which are Corsa's over in Europe. Where the smaller Fords have done alot better in sales over here compared to the Euro trash imports we get over here. Pure and simple Americans hate Europeans anything European besides German is seen as shite!!!!

GM TECH|||Doesn't it also have to do that the european cars were seen as small and dangerous?

Opel was sold in the US, have seen an Opel 1900 caravan (Ascona A-type) when I was in Seatle in 1989.

Also the Pontiac LeMans has Opel roots as they are based on the Opel Kadett the model they used just before they turned to the Opel Astra. Further a lot of US types from the GM-fleet have an european Opel design, only don't carrry the name.

Opel was never an official brand in the US as they were sold by Buick dealers as captive imports. GM's sale of Opel models like the Kadett through Buick dealers in the late 1960s and early 1970s, yielded ambivalent results; the Opels were generally well-regarded and sales were decent but never substantial. In the 1970s, when Buick decided to phase out its Opels and sell small Isuzus instead, the result was a handful of cars carrying a truly global but very amusing brand, Buick Opel by Isuzu

That's maybe the reason the Manta didn't make it.

All the cars that I have driven privately have been Opels, Ascona 16S (A-type, 75), Manta 18 GT/J (B-type, 84), Vectra 16i. Have allways enjoyed them driving, unfortunately with the car prices rocketing skyhigh and my current leasebudget, I had to switch brands for my company car.|||http://www.britishtaxdiscs.co.uk/gallery鈥?/a>

How to wire a jvc stereo in an opel kadett?

trying to wire up a jvc stereo in a 1977 opel kadett, which is the live wire?|||You need a test light to determine what wire's are hot. There should be two hot wire's. One is the switch hot. This is connected to the ignition switch. You need that so when you turn off the car the radio turn off also. The second one is the constant hot. This is needed to keep all your saved radio stations. Chances are that the constant hot and the switch hot will be red or yellow. You will need a ground wire also, most likely brown or black.

How much would it cost to insure a 1976 Opel Manta?

A 4 cylinder. I really need to know, and would it be hard to find car parts for it?

specifically window seals?|||Too general to really be able to answer. Insurance rates in most places depend not only on the car but on you, your driving experience, record, where you live, and so on. In general, it won't be much as it's an old car and would probably qualify for a classic-type policy as long as you don't want to drive it much.

Window seals are available new and used. In colder climates you might want to consider a used window seal as they don't degrade very quickly - eBay is a good source for used Manta parts as are Manta clubs. In warmer climates you probably only want to consider new seals and that generally means buying from Germany. You could try www.dr-manta.de and see if he has the seals you need.

How can i stiffen the suspension of a Opel Corsa C?

I have got 17" alloys on my corsa c, they are really wide and sometimes rub on the arch.

I was just wondering if there was anyway i could stiffen the suspension without buying new wheels|||He means neoprene. Urethane is good too. A stiffer anti-sway bar or some stiffer rate shocks would help, too. So if you have 1,500lb shocks step up to 1,700lb shocks. It would be a rougher ride but you wouldn't mess up your rims and you could do this pretty cheap, too.|||yes go to you nearst parts store and try to obtain neoprem bushings they will stiffen it up they work wonders far better than rubber

Opel Astra fitted in a new starter and will not start again?

Recently my car started to give me trouble, sometimes it would turn on sometimes it would not. So I checked and the starter was not turning over at all anymore, I replaced it how ever not u can hear the starter pop out and turn but its still not starting. Can this be a problem with the ignition switch as well? Thank You|||This can be one of three problems:-

1) You have fitted an incorrect starter motor, where it has a too small drive which is riding over the flywheel ring gear. - Unlikely

2) You have problems with the flywheel ring gear, where it has worn out or slipped - Unlikely

3) Your new starter motor is faulty, where the clutch mechanism is slipping allowing the drive to throw in but slips and will not turn the engine - Probable fault.|||Could be that the flywheel ring gear has slipped and is not being engaged by the starter|||Is it engaging with the ring on the fly wheel?

How much will a rear supsension spring cost for my opel astra 96?

Could a second hand one be used??|||Do not purchase a used or second hand one as it could sag and you will not be able to tell until you put it on, besides a brand new one will only cost around 20 gbp go for a good quality oe manufactor like lesjofors, boge or kilen i recommend probably replacing both because if one has gone its more than likely to go soon on the other side and you might as weel make 1 job of it.

On my opel corsa a 1998 model the rear wheel bearings need adjustment. how do i go about doing this?

Taper roller bearings can be tightened but need to be done by someone in the know because if you over tighten them they will fall apart rapidly. Best ask a friend who can do it or take it to a local garage.|||wheel bearings do not require anything but grease now and then ( I do it when I change brakes)|||you can not adjust wheel bearings, just grease them unless you mean they are loosely mounted then you can adjust that but do not over tighten just snug
